First, I want to thank everyone for their kind support this past year since I've been putting this business together. Also, a special shout-out to all of you who came out to see us at the Centennial StreetFest, The Unionville Festival, Markham Village Music Festival, Celebrate Ajax by the Lake and The Newmarket Canada Day Main St. Festival. Congratulations again to Michelle Bulmer and Marlene Ross, our winners of a STIGA NHL game from Markham and Newmarket!
Party Pucks is a brand new concept in sports themed parties and events. We provide hockey parties using vintage and new table hockey games in a fun and interactive way for all ages!
Well, now the wait is over! I would like to announce :
The 2012 Party Pucks Official Launch Party/Table Hockey Tournament.
Saturday, 22 September 2012 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Thoreau Macdonald House
121 Centre Street
Thornhill, Ontario L4J 1G3
Canada
There will be live music, refreshments, prizes and giveaways for the kids as well as a display of vintage games dating as far back as 1957. Also Dave Kraehling, the number #1 ranked Classic Table Hockey Player in North America and the reigning champion of The 2012 Toronto Classic Canadian Table Hockey Championships will be on hand for the festivities.
The Tournament will be to open to players of all ages but amateur players only (meaning players that have never participated in an official table hockey tournament by the OTHA and the ITHF or if they had, have never reached the playoffs in any of the divisions). That does not mean that Professional Players will not be able to participate. The Pros will have a special arrangement to operate as mentors and coaches to the participating players. This is how it will work: The Pros will have an opportunity to observe the gameplay during the 1st round. Afterwards, there will be a Draft where the Pros will be able to Draft a player. The order will be determined by Draft lottery. Once all the Pros have drafted a player, they will work in tandem with the player for the duration of the tournament. The top 3 mentor/player tandems will all be awarded a medal and a prize as well as a cash prize.
If you are interested in participating please email me so that I can confirm the numbers. There will be a small entry fee (around $8) so that we can guarantee a cash prize for the champion. The Tournament structure will be double elimination. There will be 3 different customized classic table hockey games where you will be guaranteed to play at least 2 games. We will be playing on The Stiga NHL Stanley Cup Game (NHL Players), The Irwin Powerplay II Game (with flat plastic players) and The Wayne Gretzky Overtime Hockey Game. All games will last 5 minutes long (running time) and we will be using International Stiga Table Hockey Rules.
Now just to specify, this is NOT Air Hockey which requires no talent or skill whatsoever. Table or Rod Hockey is the game where little plastic hockey players are manuevered around a miniature hockey rink using rods that allow them to slide and spin around on the surface. Classic versions of the game date back to the 1940's where the players were just a series of springs and flippers. This slowly turned into spinning flat metal men in the 50's. Later versions from the 70's up until the early 80's the flat players were made of plastic. It wasn't until the mid 80's that arcade versions called Bubble Hockey like the ones they have in bars started popping up where the players were now molded plastic figures which is currently the accepted norm.
If you wish to come out and participate please let me know ASAP since space is limited. Spectators are welcome.
